Dr. Charles White has been practicing dentistry in his hometown of Lafayette since 2005 after moving from New Orleans where he practiced for ten years. Our dental team is comprised of a group of caring dental professionals who take pride in delivering the ultimate experience for every patient. We realize that most people would rather be fishing, shopping or washing their hair when it comes to going to the dentist – so we’ve made it our goal to make your visit to Dr. White’s office as comfortable, painless and relaxing as possible. And according to our patients - you might even have FUN at a visit to Dr. White’s dentist office!

What is the Difference Between a Family Dentist and a General Dentist?

When it comes right down to it, a “family dentist” and a “general dentist” are virtually the same thing. However, there are sometimes slight differences between the two.

The most common difference is that a family dentist is usually focused on providing dental care for every member of the family – from children to the elderly – throughout every stage of life.

One the other hand, there are some instances where a general dentist will restrict their practice to a specific age group. For instance, there are some general dentists who only treat adults. There may be other dentists who practice in retirement communities or nursing home facilities and therefore focus on dental care and oral hygiene for elderly patients.

For the most part, a family dentist and a general dentist will have many aspects of their practices in common. Both help patients with basic oral care and provide teeth cleaning, examinations and dental x-rays to help maintain good oral health and prevent tooth decay. Both types of dentist may also provide a wide range of services including fillings, root canals, repair of broken teeth, dental implants, dental bridges and full dentures.

If you are trying to decide between a family dentist or a general dentist for your dental care, it is far more important to focus on the skill and experience of the dentist – as well as the reputation of their dental practice. You may want to visit the dentist’s website to see if any patient testimonials are available – as these are a good indicator of patient satisfaction and the true reputation of the dentist.
